During 24-25 October 2022, SELEC hosted Paris Pact Initiative’s Expert Working Group Meeting on Precursors in support of the Pillar III of the Vienna Declaration, event organized by UNODC jointly with SELEC.
The meeting was opened by Mr. Oğuz Serkant Akin, Director General of SELEC, Mr. Danilo Rizzi, Regional Representative, UNODC Regional Office for SEE, Mr. Riku Lehtovuori, Paris Pact Coordinator, and focused on the latest trends, routes and techniques used to smuggle precursors chemicals destined for use in heroin/methamphetamine production, international investigations related to trafficking of precursors and the information sharing between regional intelligence centres.
During his intervention, Mr. Akin stated that “drugs and precursors trafficking remain a serious concern for the whole world since they have a wide range of impacts on public health, security and corruption. Illegal production and smuggling of drugs are quite attractive criminal areas for the organized crime groups since they are very profitable. Countering drug trafficking is a national and regional priority in Southeast Europe, mounting up many efforts from national and international entities.”
The meeting was organized in a hybrid format, being attended by 85 participants from CARICC, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, GCC-CIC, International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Romania, SELEC, Serbia, Turkmenistan, USA, Uzbekistan and UNODC.
