20th Meeting of Mirage Task Force on Countering Trafficking in Human Beings and Illegal Migration

Bucharest, June 25, 2013  The representatives of the law enforcement authorities from all SELEC Member States and also guests from EUBAM, French Republic, the Netherlands, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and United States of America attended the 20th Meeting of Mirage Task Force on Countering Trafficking in Human Beings and Illegal Migration, held on 25th of June 2013, at SELEC premises.

Opening remarks were addressed by Mr. Cristian Duta, SELEC Director for Operations, who underlined that“although much progress have been achieved in the last period in the area of human trafficking and illegal migration, we need a more comprehensive and joint approach against this kind of trans-border criminality, which indicated increasing trends in the previous years”.

The purpose of the meeting was to evaluate the regional situation on trafficking in human beings and smuggling of migrants for the year 2012, to discuss on trafficking in persons’ related issues, as well as to plan the future related operational activities. The 2012 Regional Evaluation Report on Trafficking in Human Beings and Migrant Smuggling was presented and discussed during the meeting.

Each delegation presented a significant case in the area of human trafficking and migrant smuggling, highlighting the new trends, modus operandi and investigative methods. 

Mirage Task Force, established in May 2000, is one of the oldest Task Forces developed by the former SECI Center, under Romanian Police coordination.
