The 27th Task Force on Human Trafficking and Illegal Migration annual meeting

The 27th meeting of the Task Force on Countering Trafficking in Human Beings and Illegal Migration was held online on 24 of November 2020.

Opening remarks were addressed by Mr. Valentin Niculescu, Director for Operations and Mr. Silviu Pitran, Manager of the Task Force on Countering Trafficking in Human Beings and Illegal Migration.

SELEC support in the fight against human trafficking and smuggling of migrants was reiterated by SELEC Director for Operations, SELEC Member States being encouraged to further use the tools and facilities provided by SELEC.

During the meeting, presentations on new trends, modi operandi, investigative methods, as well as successful cases were delivered by the representatives of SELEC Member States and Partners (Belgium, Czech Republic, EUBAM, France, Georgia, Germany, INTERPOL, IOM, Israel. Italy, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Switzerland, UK and USA) that attended the event.

The key findings of the latest analytical Report on Trafficking in Human Beings in Southeast Europe and the Report on Smuggling of Migrants in Southeast Europe were presented. The reports are for law enforcement and judicial use only.

Discussions on further activities to be developed under the framework of the Task Force on Countering Trafficking in Human Beings and Illegal Migration, as well the prospects of organizing and coordinating a future regional operation MIRAGE were also among the topics tackled.

The Task Force on Countering Trafficking in Human Beings and Illegal Migration was established in May 2000, has regular annual meetings and it’s being coordinated by Romania.
