Continuing its commitment to support regional joint operational activities, as previously, SELEC joined the law enforcement authorities from 26 countries, as well as 12 agencies, including Europol, in the Joint Action Days South East Europe 2024 (JAD SEE 2024) driven by the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT)
SELEC’s participation consisted in ensuring central coordination at its Headquarters and deploying Turkish liaison officers from both Police and Customs in the field, as well as to the Coordination Center established in Sarajevo.
JAD SEE 2024 targeted multiple criminal threats, including trafficking in human beings, migrant smuggling, drug and illegal firearms trafficking, cybercrime and high-risk criminal networks.
The key to this operation’s success, that counted 796 arrests, 316 initiated investigations and 442 weapons seized, was cross-border collaboration, that involved more than 30,000 officers.
A seizure of 120 kg cocaine made by the Turkish Customs Authority was counted among the results obtained, following SELEC’s direct involvement in the JAD SEE 2024.
EMPACT is European Union’s initiative for combating serious and organised crime globally.
