18th Meeting of Mirage Task Force on Trafficking of Human Beings and Migrants Smuggling

Chisinau, November 2nd, 2011 – Representatives of law enforcement authorities from SELEC Member States, including case prosecutors, and participants from international partners attended the 18th meeting of Mirage Task Force on trafficking of human beings and migrants smuggling, held on 1st – 2nd of November 2011 in Chisinau, Republic ofMoldova. Opening remarks were addressed by Mr. Petros Petroff, SELEC Acting Director in charge with operations, Mr. Iurie Cheptanaru, Vice-Minister within Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs and Mr. Cristian Duta, Romanian Task Force Coordinator.

The state of play in the field of combating  trafficking of human beings and migrants smuggling, sharing experience, best practices and new trends were among the topics addressed by the participants. The participation of case prosecutors offered the excellent opportunity for exchanging views on legal aspects related to coordination of joint investigations.

“This meeting is historically recorded as the first operational meeting under SELEC auspices. SELEC will continue to upgrade its operational capabilities and to support the Member States in successfully conducting joint investigations and providing strategic analysis covering the phenomenon of trafficking in persons” stated Mr. Petros Petroff.

Regional and international cooperation is imperative for radically cutting all heads of organized criminal groups, compared with the notorious beast “Hydra”, who’s heads had the possibility to be immediately re-born.

Mirage Task Force, established in 2001, is one of the oldest Task Forces developed by SECI Center, under Romanian Police coordination.
