On 6th of December 2021, at the SELEC Headquarters was received the visit of a delegation of officials from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia headed by Major general Mr. Mohammad Saeed Al Gharni, General Manager of General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC).
The visit followed the conclusion of the Cooperation Agreement between SELEC and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that set the legal base for the cooperation at operational level.
The Director General of SELEC, Mrs. Snejana Maleeva, made an extensive presentation of the Center, it’s mission, area of competences, activities, a/o and underlined the modalities of cooperation with Operational partners and the benefits of such status. SELEC endeavours, products and results obtained in the area of drugs trafficking, such as succesful joint investigations, numbers of exchanges of information, analytical products, namely the Organized Crime Threat Assessment for Southeast Europe (OCTA SEE) and the annual Report on Drug Seizures in Southeast Europe, were introduced to the members of the delegation.
Major general Mr. Mohammad Saeed Al Gharni, General Manager of General Directorate of Narcotics Control, expressed their readiness to cooperate with SELEC and its Member States, in all areas mentioned in the concluded Cooperation Agreement, including posting a Liaison Officer at the SELEC Headquarters in order to ensure a more effective and swift cooperation. He made a presentation of the General Directorate for Narcotics Control (GDNC) and mentioned that among GDNC’s primary responsibilities are the investigation and preparation for the prosecution of drug law offenses operating at local and international levels, seizure and forfeiture of assets derived from illicit drug trafficking, as well as international cooperation with Narcotics Control Administrations abroad, and local law enforcement officials on mutual drug enforcement efforts and enhancement of international investigations.
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has become in 2020 the 5th Operational Partner of SELEC, along Interpol, Italian Republic, United Kingdom and United States of America.
