Bucharest, 8th of December 2015 – Mr. Romulus Nicolae UNGUREANU, SELEC Director for Operations, addressed opening remarks at the International Conference held in the framework of the Project “National approach regarding the compensation of the victims of illegal trafficking” organized by the Romanian National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons. The conference took place in the period 8-9 December 2015, in Bucharest/ Romania, with the participation of representatives from EU and Non- EU states, representatives of the civil society, international organizations and other major actors involved in the fight against illegal trafficking of human beings.
The project, implemented by the Romanian National Agency Against Trafficking in Persons and the Council of Europe, envisages the improvement of the cooperation between the competent authorities and other interested parties in offering financial and legal assistance to the victims of trafficking in human beings.
In order to have a synergy of the actions of all SELEC Member States in fighting against this kind of crime, SELEC established in May 2000 the Task Force Mirage on Countering Trafficking in Human Beings and Illegal Migration coordinated by Romania. During the previous year 17 joint investigations in this field were supported and conducted succesfully through SELEC.
