Turkish Officers awarded by SELEC

Ankara/Republic of Turkey, February 8th, 2016,  at the Police General Directorate headquarters in Ankara, Mr. Ahmet Kemal YÜZGÜLEÇ, Turkish Police General Directorate, Head of Foreign Relations Department and Mr. Murat ÇALIŞKAN, SELEC Turkish Police Liaison Officer offered the Certificates of honor to the officers involved in the joint investigation SHEPPARD developed with SELEC support.

Operation SHEPPARD is a joint investigation conducted by law enforcement agencies from Hungary, Republic of Serbia and Republic of Turkey regarding the criminal activity in the field of migrants smuggling which led to the arrest of 14 persons, other 5 persons being under judicial control, seizure of forged documents, and vehicles used for migrants transport. The swift exchange of information done through SELEC secure channel, and the operational meetings supported by SELEC with the purpose to exchange operational data related to the case, ensured the successful finalization of this investigation.

The investigation was directed towards an organized criminal group involved in smuggling of human beings and illegal border crossings of migrants from Turkey and Afro-Asian countries to the European Union countries.

For the first semester of 2015, the joint investigation SHEPPARD received the second place prize, Mr.Taner DOĞANGÜZEL, Manager of Anti-Smuggling Crimes Division of KOM Department Turkish National Police and Mr. Tolga BECER,  Bureau Chief of Illegal Migration and Human Trafficking KOM Department Turkish National Police, being given the Certificates of appreciation on behalf of SELEC, in the presence of Mr. İbrahim CİHANGİR, Deputy Head of Foreign Relation Department,  Police General Directorate.

SELEC grants awards to the law enforcement authorities from SELEC Member States, as an appreciation for the successful joint investigations conducted through SELEC.
